Estrella Family Services is a non-profit agency located in San Jose that offers child care and youth services, as well as a wide range of services for the entire family through its Parent Services Project. Estrella's educational programs include a full day preschool and before and after school care for school-aged children. These consist of activities that are developmentally appropriate and based on individual needs of the child. Estrella Family Services serves two nutritious meals and one snack daily. We offer yearly on-site dental, hearing and vision screenings. Estrella Family Services strongly believes in family support and offers mental health services to families, as well as parenting activities, community service referrals and family outings such as camping trips. We serve children in our family child care homes and our centers at Gardner Academy, Galarza and River Glen Elementary Schools. Our Kids to Camp program sends over 600 low income youth to summer camp.
All Estrella Family Services agency practices shall not be influenced or affected by virtue of a potential clien'ts, applicant's, employee's or participant's race, color, marital status, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or disability.

About Us
Estrella Family
Estrella provides child care to 300 children and camping to 600 youth of ethnically diverse backgrounds. Estrella provides child care to children six weeks old to sixth grade. Our campers range in age from 5 to 17 years old. Not only does Estrella serve children, but it also serves the families of these children who are mostly single parent, low income and speak English as a second language. Estrella is run by 25 employees and more than 100 volunteers from Santa Clara University. Governing Estrella is a community based, volunteer Board of Directors.
Ethnicity
High-quality child care is a primary concern for working parents and has a direct impact on their employers. Research has shown that employees are more satisfied at work, feel less stress and have more loyalty to a company when their children are well taken care of while they're at work. (United Way Silicon Valley Impact Report 1999) Nearly half (48%) of California's school children, 2.8 million, live in families with incomes low enough to qualify for subsidized school meals (under $30,430 for a family of four); the vast majority have parents who are working, yet are still dealing with economic uncertainty for their families.(Children Now 2000) In Silicon Valley, 56% of children 5 years and younger and 64% of children ages 6 through 13 live in households where either both parents or the single-parent head-of-household is working outside the home. (United Way Silicon Valley Impact Report 1999) California Report Card 2000 found that there is an insufficient supply of high-quality, affordable after-school programs for children and youth. For every ten children ages 6-17 who live with two employed parents or a single employed parent, the state provides only one after-school slot. Estrella alone has a waiting list of more than 200 eligible children. (Children Now 2000)
Estrella's Financial Profile
Estrella is currently funded by federal, state and local funds, parent fees, United Way, grants and fundraising contributions. Our revenues slightly exceeded our expenditures in the last fiscal year; the annual budget was $1,379,135. We had a clean audit and the management letter lists no reportable conditions.
